RM of Mervin’s story
The Rural Municipality of Mervin No. 499 was incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. Over the years it took in the neighbouring RM of Greenfield No. 529, which had originally been called the RM of Bright Sand No. 529 until its name was changed on February 2, 1926.
Today the RM surrounds the town of Turtleford, the village of Mervin and the resort village of Kivimaa-Moonlight Bay, and the RM office is in Turtleford. Its many hamlets and localities include several lakeside communities, among them Horseshoe Bay, Evergreen Beach and Sunset View Beach, which was restructured from resort village status on January 1, 2005.
The area is known for its lakes. Turtle Lake and Brightsand Lake are the main attractions, and Brightsand Lake Regional Park is also within the municipality.
